hells yes. [Jul. 6th, 2008|12:34 pm]

[sillyamandilly]
I am SO relieved. I was stuck around 126 for a couple of weeks, I visited my parents and they eat out all the time, then I was scared to weigh myself after a 4th full of 'ritas and bbq, but I weighed myself today anyhow and it was 123! That makes 9lbs so far since the beginning of the challenge and I'd like to get down to a steady 120.
I bought a bright orange yoga mat, too, and it's coming in the mail. In the meantime I'm using a towel but it's not so fun with it slipping all over the place.

Hemp face cloths [Jul. 6th, 2008|09:41 am]

This is something new I whipped up last night. It occurs to me that it would be good to sell these (I think). Opinions?

photos and description )

I know it's not exactly a ground-breaking design, but I think that the little loop and the cotton cuff make them a bit special. I also made them big enough for Aaron to get his hand in them. :) They're like, 6x7-ish, so it's a nice size.

I'm thinking of selling them in sets of 3 for $10. What do you all think? Too much? Not enough? Just right? I hate trying to price stuff!

small update [Jul. 5th, 2008|02:37 pm]

march2007

[nothingtohide2]
Logan is 16 months old today. I just can't bellieve how quickly time has gone by. (and continues to go by for that matter.)
He is just a joy!  I love seeing how he changes each day.
I bought one of those "gerber graduate toddler meals" for him, and he LOVED it. He ate the entire thing. I'll have to go get him more.
He still isn't walking unassisted yet, but he does walk with his push toys, and if you hold his hand.
If I let go of his hand, he just sits down and smiles, then crawls away! Its to cute!

He STILL doesn't sleep through the night on a regular basis, but I really dont mind waking up to feed him. He just gets up once. (sometimes twice) when he DOES sleep through the night, he sleeps about 11 hours straight! I wish he would do it more often. . maybe after he starts walking unassisted, he'll start sleeping through the night regularly. . (I can dream can't I?!?)

He has 8 teeth. 4 on top, 4 on bottom. I don't feel/see any molars coming in but he sure is drooling like crazy!  He loves to go for walks in his stroller, so I take him for a walk everynight once the sun goes down!
he doesn't say any "real" words yet either, but points at everything and says "dat"  (kind of like "that?"  so, I tell him what it is.) He will bring me a toy when I ask him for a specific toy, so I know he understands/hears me!

He is still about 16.5-17 lbs and roughly 27.5 inches! he is still my tiny little baby and I love it!!

I hope all of your baby's are doing excellent!!  he goes to the pedi for his next set of shots at the end of the month and I am NOT looking forward to that, but he needs them done!

[info]mightyfinewine, you are a genius!

Our wedding invitation mock-up arrived today and it's beautiful! Simple, elegant, and lovely - it's precisely what I wanted. Ed likes it, too, and he was far less "into" this process than I was :)

Thanks so much! It's perfect as-is!

I love the 4th of July! [Jul. 5th, 2008|11:55 am]

Last night was amazing. We met with Natasha, hit up Whole Foods, and headed over to Erin's house around 7. We grilled, drank, and then danced danced danced to the DJ's music by the pool. We got the DJ to play FREEDOM, which he didn't want to do, but you really can't argue with 2 redheads who want you to play FREEDOM on the 4th. The (self righteous) (jerk of a) DJ insulted George while I was requesting the song, but I let it go in the spirit of Independence Day. Eventually we felt pretty hot and definitely drunk. SO we stole all of Erin's bikinis and jumped into the pool, which was absolutely lovely and perfectly heated. The fireworks started while we were in the pool, and a douche bag started bothering us (he asked what we did for a living. we made him guess and he suggested that half of us must do clerical work, then someone yelled at him to get his glass out of the pool and he wouldn't, so we gave him the cold shoulder and he called us faggots under his breath. charming.). we ditched the pool and ran upstairs to watch the gorgeousness from Erin's balcony. Fireworks by the needle were cool, but Lake Union fireworks definitely won. There were cream puffs, squares, sparkly pants, pony tails, weeping willows, and smiley faces in the sky. Then I broke Erin's table, for which I am eternally sorry. Then we went to McLeod Residence and danced some more. They were having Halloween in July over there, which was pretty awesome. At some point, Buster hijacked a crazy horn hat and soon it was after last call so we ended up with all of these people on our roof for a bonfire. I can still smell campfire in the air. I don't know what time we went to bed and I don't know how I don't feel like absolute crap, but I don't. In fact, I'm pretty super happy sitting here and stealing glances at my adorable sleeping Buster, who rallied me out of bed and to the shower an hour ago and I guess forgot to rally himself.

Thanks again to Erin! I hope we didn't leave too much of a mess. You know, aside from the table and all. (Yikes!)

...

Today I have to clean the whole house, do Clarita's hair, and work on this whole invitation business. Invitations will be in the mail by the end of the week. I find this awfully exciting, slightly terrifying, and totally awesome. Holy smokes, this wedding is happening! The invitations are hilarious and gorgeous. I'll show everyone what the talanted Sara and Thor designed for us once the mailers are out.

F*&%in Fireworks [Jul. 4th, 2008|09:08 pm]

Mia's fighting sleep even more than usual, and I think part of it is due to the damn fireworks outside. I really wish they'd hurry up and get the stupid show over with so that she can go to sleep in peace.

Today's been a lazy one after my cleaning frenzy this morning. I took a nap from noon until about three, Mia slept from 2 until 4:30. When she woke up we hurried up and hit the road to PF Chang's since, for the first time they opened, they didn't have a wait.

Yum! Horrible-for-you-pseudo-Chinese food! Crab wontons, garlic noodles, orange peel chicken and kung pao shrimp. The shrimp was supposed to be chicken, but Ed didn't care enough to send it back, so we ended up with a full entree to bring home along with the other leftovers. I tried their stir fry spinach with garlic and didn't care for it, and had a mini s'mores dessert that was too sweet for me to want it again.

We went by IKEA to browse for a bit and ended up doing a fast-track because they were closing early for the holiday, the sign for which we missed on the way in. Then it was back home to let Mia run around and wear herself down to the manic-tired phase, Ed took her upstairs for bath while I cleaned up and now we're watching Rush Hour 3 while Mia cries upstairs everytime another round of fireworks goes off.

I'm glad for freedom, but I'm getting to hate this holiday. Grrr.

ETA: Ed brought her downstairs for about a half hour. We turned off the living room light and made her stay on the couch instead of getting down on the floor to play. He took her back upstairs after she was clearly being an uncooperative brat. Hitting, flailing... she gave me a fat lip earlier today when she was in a similar mood. She's quieting down now and appears to finally be going to sleep.

Clarion West laptops stolen [Jul. 4th, 2008|03:56 pm]

spitkitten
So, sometime this morning (YES, DAYLIGHT), while we were in class here at Clarion West, someone broke into the sorority house we are staying in and stole 4 laptops, clothing, and other personal possessions from 4 rooms on the 3rd floor.
I was not one of them, but my classmates are absolutely gobsmacked. Those of you that are familiar with Clarion know it is neither easy nor cheap to attend, and while we can get some temporary computers for these folks, they won't be able to replace them anytime soon. We and Clarion West are soliciting donations of either good used laptops or cash for laptops via the Clarion West administration. If can help, let Leslie or Neile know at info@clarionwest.org (or get me at my normal email addy).
If you could also pass the word around, I’d love that too.

Domestications [Jul. 4th, 2008|11:04 am]

[Tags|, ]

I got up with Mia this morning at 8:30, hung out with her for awhile, and then while she ate her breakfast, I tackled the kitchen. I'd originally asked Ed to do it, but with Mia in her high chair, it was something I could multi-task, so it just made sense for me to get it done. I took everything off of the counters and dismantled the stovetop so that I could clean and scrub every surface. I swear, no matter how often we clean, there's cat hair all over the freakin' place.

The stovetop had some baked-on-crud, so I used vinegar and baking soda to get it up and spent the last 20 minutes of cleaning also yelling at Mia, who by now was done breakfast and getting into every kitchen cabinet and drawer and trash can and recycling bin. She finally got ridiculously whiny, so I took her upstairs with a bottle and a pacifier, finished up the kitchen, started the dishwasher, and then headed downstairs with the broom to sweep the basement. That's done now and Mia's in bed blowing raspberries, apparently uninterested in sleep.

Ed's still in bed and I desperately need a shower, so I may have to go wake him up to take over baby duty so that I can clean myself up.

Dude, I freakin' rock [Jul. 3rd, 2008|04:42 pm]

I left work just before 2 today, which put me home in the middle of Mia's naptime. I left her sleeping at daycare and came straight home, trying to figure out what I was going to do for a few hours, and as I was walking in the door, I decided... clean.

I moved the end tables and coffee table, Mia's toys, the torch lamp and the TV stand out of the living room. I vacuumed the corners that rarely get touched because they're under furniture, moved the couches away from the walls to get under and behind them, took the pillows and cushions off to vacuum under them (OMG ew), and even vacuumed the curtains a bit until the attachment clogged up. I got off about 60% of the cat hair, at least, from the curtains. Progress!

I also vacuumed the seam between carpet and wall and the baseboards, thanks to the handy attachments. I vacuumed the curve of the carpet as it goes into the basement, also covered in cat hair because the cat door is just above it. I vacuumed off the couch cushions themselves. And I unclogged the roller three times, emptied the canister six times, and changed the belt all by myself. This involves a screwdriver, people. Ed always does it. I don't. I hate getting dirty and there's a lot of dust in a vacuum - did you know that? I was sweaty and filthy by the time I was done, but so freakin' proud of myself.

So then I put the living room back together, dismantled the dining room (considerably easier) and vacuumed in there. I put it back together, emptied the coat closet, and swept inside. Holy crap was it disgusting in there. I put the vacuum and assorted crap away in the coat closet, dumped a load of stuff down the basement steps to be stored down there, and then went to empty the kitchen and swept it out.

Now I'm on the couch, feet up, just ate a piece of danish and am guzzling water. I feel very accomplished, especially if you take into account the fact that I emptied the dishwasher before bed last night and put away three loads of clean laundry this morning before I left for work.

In the spirit of optimism that my productivity continues, here's the weekend To Do List:

1. Go with Ed to Men's Wearhouse and decide on tuxes
2. Go with Ed to Bed, Bath & Beyond to begin registering
3. Move rabbit cage and vacuum office thoroughly.
4. Vacuum Mia's room, hallway, and our room.
5. Sweep basement.
6. Wash sheets off of our bed and Mia's.
7. Ed: Clean kitchen counters, stove top, and range hood.
8. Ed: Clean master bathroom and powder room.
9. Ed: Clean out plastics' recycling bin.

That's not too terribly much, right? It's feasible to get done over a three-day weekend without feeling like all we're doing is cleaning and running errands. I can sweep the basement tonight, wash the sheets tomorrow during the day, and start on vacuuming the upstairs. Saturday we can do tuxes in the morning, come home to relax, I can finish the vacuuming. Sunday was can do Bed, Bath & Beyond. Ed can do his stuff whenever, I don't care, long's it's done by Sunday - I want a nice, clean house going into Monday. If possible. I guess we'll see.

Remember these people, (http://diwriter.livejournal.com/46885.html)

I saw them in the park again yesterday. He was lying, blissfully unawares, with his head in her lap, as she plucked, plucked, plucked away.

Oh, this time?
They were on a bench in the park.

This 'n' That, Mostly Mia & Wedding Talk [Jul. 3rd, 2008|12:11 pm]

fireyirishangel
[Tags|, , , , , , ]

Mia's a constant source of amusement for Ed and I. She's recently started saying "no no, Mia, no no," which Ed said makes him feel bad, like that's all we ever say to her. I pointed out that, sometimes, it feels like that is all we say to her. She's also started saying "aww" when we tell her to say "love", and I think she's working on "up" and "good girl". Daycare says she's said "thank you," but we can't get her to repeat it. She still answers pretty much every question with "no".

And she says "duck," but it doesn't mean duck and we can't, for the life of us, figure out what it does mean. She says it so very often that we're going to have a huge lightbulb moment when we finally do figure it out. It's driving us crazy, especially because she'll often say it when she's upset.

She's also done this new little trick lately when I say "are you ready for a nap?" or "is it bathtime?" As soon as I take the baby gate at the stairs down after asking her one of these questions, she books it up the steps to her room or to our bathroom, depending upon which one's coming up. It's very clear she understands those terms as well as "lay down" and "it's bedtime" - she flips out hearing either of those when we're in her room. She still fights bedtime, obviously.

She's discovered Goldfish courtesy of daycare and now refuses any other snacks while she's there. Wonderful. She remains a fairly picky eater, choosing to eat bananas, applesauce, yogurt and waffles pretty much anytime. Everything else is more hit-or-miss.

She loves boys, apparently, and there are two at daycare who she's in love with. The three year old has been her buddy for awhile and they follow each other all over the place, but an 11-year old started more recently and she sits in his lap and plays with him all the time. This morning when I dropped her off, she reached out for him to take her. Adorable.

Her temper is becoming more and more clear. She really hates the drives to and from daycare, most days, and spends the 20 minutes flipping out in the backseat. Sometimes when she gets mad she starts pinching her knees, grabbing the little chunk of baby fat and pulling at it until she hollers because it hurts. I have no earthly idea why she does this and wish she'd learn that doing it hurts her, so... stop it! *shakes head*

She's started another strange one that we can't figure out, whenever we read Guess How Much I Love You?, saying "nononono!" emphatically to the bunnies in the book, always on the same page. She'll occasionally say it on other subsequent pages in the book but always at that one page. It's baffling.

Changing gears, wedding planning's coming along swimmingly. Getting my wedding dress pepped me up and put me back in the right mindset. The guest list is complete and fully populated, the save-the-date postcards have been ordered, my checklist is drafted (and ever-expanding!), I've finalized some beauty-related appointments, I've drafted the seating chart, and am starting to make headway in other sorted minor details. Ed and I are going to the tux place this weekend to sort out what he and the rest of the guys are wearing so that they can start going in to be measured and preparing to pay for the rentals. I'd also like to take care of registering this weekend since people are starting to ask (isn't it early for that?!), and, well, it sounds like fun.

I've been on Lexapro for almost a week and it's hard to tell what I'm feeling. I was perked up before I started the med, thanks to the wedding dress purchase and related excitement, but I definitely feel far more even-keel. I'm less manic either way. Unfortunately, I'm also suffering a few unpleasant side effects that, unless the level out very soon, are going to cause me to try another medication option. I'm going to try and give it until the next appointment with my doctor at the end of this month, but honestly, I'm not sure I can wait that long. We'll see. I'm willing to try a bit longer.

Last night was Girls' Night with [info]admiringbog, having missed last week's and not having one for the next two weeks. Ack! We went to Sizzling Bombay for Indian yumminess in the form of aloo chat papri, shrimp masala and naan. Clearly we are creatures of habit, since this is what we get every.single.time. The waitstaff doesn't even have to ask what we want anymore. They're so wonderful there - I cannot say enough good things. And it was a treat to sit with Michelle and just hang out and chat. She's going to be gone for the next couple of weeks on vacations, so we had to get girly gabbing out of our systems. I think the first Girls' Night after her return is going to end up being a long one, what with all the catching up we'll have to do!

Work's... well... work. Minor irritations, blips of laughter and happiness, it all comes out in the wash. Today's a bit of a waste what with being the last day before a holiday weekend. I just finished up the weekly report that's usually done on Fridays, am going to kill a couple more hours and try to get out of here a bit early to get a head start on the I-95 holiday traffic. Three day weekend - w00t! I'm so ecstatic, I cannot even tell you. We have some cleaning to do, a couple of wedding-related errands to run as mentioned above, and that's it. No plans. Love! I have two discs of Queer As Folk and the fourth in the "Outlander" series, Drums of Autumn at home, so I'm set for laziness and relaxation.

Have a great holiday and weekend, gang. If you're traveling, be safe. If you hear "hey y'all, watch this!" run far, far away.

CSA Week 5 [Jul. 3rd, 2008|07:38 am]

rivulet
I'm a little late, but to make up for it I took a photo somewhere besides my stove!

CSA Week 5

This week:
Mustard Greens
Lettuce
Potatoes
Carrots
Purple Kohlrabi
Scallions
Onion
Zucchini
Cucumber
Basil
And our first tomato!

Last night's dinner was sourdough bread with a basil-mayo spread and sliced tomatoes, broiled for a couple of minutes in the toaster oven. What a nice way to celebrate July and the start of tomato (and basil) season! Yum. Most of the rest of the veggies are coming with us to Redmond, where my family will share them.

I think one of my favorite things about this CSA is looking at how beautiful vegetables are. I love chopping them up and looking at their color and the patterns inside and outside. I usually take the head of lettuce to Cory to admire before I start pulling leaves off. Nature is a pretty good artist.

Mark's been out of town since last Thursday and he's coming home tomorrow, along with two house guests! I reserved a pontoon boat on Saturday- this will be a first, but it sounded like fun and it wasn't unreasonably priced. We will be on the Connecticut river all day. Any suggestions on what we should bring (besides the obvious sun block, water, food, beer...)?

It has been a pretty good week, overall. I had a few moments when I felt like I needed to go for a walk but couldn't, mostly because Cadence is getting really vocal and stubborn about getting dressed in the morning. But with one day of daycare and one evening with a sitter, I've been okay.

All my spare moments I have been spending at the studio. I've been churning out bowls like I can't believe... There are eight drying right now!
