It's time for that weekly update. All is well is pregnant land. I always assumed it would take longer for chubbier girls to show but boy was I wrong. See, what happens is, once the uterus grows past the pubic bone, it pushes up that lower tummy fat making for one big belly. I am really curious where that fat will go as the uterus gets even bigger. Does it go on top of the baby belly, underneath it, or will it become divided into two enormous lovehandles? This mystery will keep you reading during the months to come I'm sure. As the weather cools, I am forced to shop for maternity pants. Target and Old Navy maternity was a joke. Nothing fit me right. Way too long in the legs, too tight in the thighs, and giving me the loveliest of plumber cracks. Good ole' Ross saved the day and I got some really cheap and cute pants to hopefully take me through the winter.
In other news, we are totally broke this month and we still have 2 weeks before we get paid. We sat down today and did our budget and luckily we do make more than we pay out in bills but not by very much. This is scary considering I'M PREGNANT. We will exclusively breastfeed this child until he or she starts kindergarten. The poor tot will never set foot in any new clothing stores and they can just forget about toys. oh lordy.
It's a perfectly dreary, wet day in Texas today. We were still in the 90's last week. I'm heading out to the grocery store for some rice and bean fixins. The perfect poor man's meal. |

"We will exclusively breastfeed this child until he or she starts kindergarten."
Hahaha. This made me laugh. This post could have been written by me! I feel the exact same way about my belly, maternity pants and being broke!
A big UUGH to Target maternity pants! I really have to wonder who they actually fit.
right? I have bought a few t-shirts and a skirt from there that fit great but the pants were ridiculous.
Do you remember how broke Dave and I were before Trixie was born? Broke broke. And yet, I don't think we bought one single baby item -- excpet for maybe a middle-of-the-night pacifier -- until she was, I don't know, maybe a year old. Even now, aside from furniture, probably 75% of the stuff in her room came from relatives. Don't sweat it.
yeah, half our nursery has already been donated and things keep pouring in- the bonus of working with infants and toddlers! I more afraid of the years to come than the infancy period and it would be really nice if we could have a savings account again.
Have you been reading Cookie? Seriously, if anything, kids get cheaper as they get older. They don't grow out of clothes and/or develop beyond their toys every five minutes. Plus, once you're beyond the oh sweet jesus how I pray for sleep stage, you can plan ahead more, buy clothes for next summer when you find them on sale now, etc. If Dave and I could manage to put away $10k to move back here to NYC, you can definitely do it too.
oooh, a new read! I haven't seen that mag in stores. Is a subscription recommended?
and I guess I assume since everyone gives you baby clothes and gear (and with planning to breastfeed and cloth diaper) that the baby years will be cheaper. One HUGE thing I have to remember is that once the kid starts school, we'll be saving $600/mos in childcare costs. Since we are a non-profit center, I still have to pay tuition. The plus side is I will be earning money while getting to be with the baby all day. The $600 still hurts though.
As you said in reply to one of my previous posts... Can I just copy and paste this? :-)
I am SHOCKED by how large I am already. My belly has bulged out by several inches over the past three days. Not kidding! We'll have to compare notes on the belly fat as things progress. Me, I'd rather that it sit on top of the baby belly and not turn into massive lovehandles. :-/
I am counting on friends and family members to supply a lot of clothes and toys. It's going to be a tight budget.
Totally hit up garage sales - it sounds weird, but I always find TONS of new/unopened baby stuff for pennies. Plus, if you need anything in particular, I've got a ton of well-cared for onesies and blankets and such...just say the word! :)
I am wondering when the baby fat is coming.. and I think it is now, but slowly day at a time. Some big women seem to have two big lovehandles above and below the belly and some just get overall bigger.
Ross, huh? I don't think I have one nearby.
I hope we can breastfeed, too.
As for clothing, I got a bunch of onesies and some at yard sales, and I'm decorating them with stamps and aint and iron-ons.
Fortunately, toys and books mail well, and since this baby's coming into a FULL set of extended online friends, he should be just fine!
Congrats, sweetie!
Thanks again! Actually, we are set on toys now as I just got bags given to me from a family I know- too many toys actually! I think in the end this baby will be just fine :)
And you are now added. All my posts are usually locked over here. This one just got under the radar I guess. | |
